Rules & Regulations

Please read carefully. Failure to comply may result in loss of points or disqualification.

COMPETITION ADMISSION: Audience admission for competition is free.

COMPETITION RULES: 

  • There is no limit to the number of entries per studio.

  • All routines must be appropriate for family viewing. The use of music, choreography, or costuming not appropriate for minors, may result in the deduction of points.

  • No use of dangerous props such as fire, glass, swords, etc. General props are permitted.

  • No live animals.

  • No helium balloons, loose feathers or loose glitter, or liquids permitted.

  • The stage must be left clean by the presenting studio.

  • No coaching from the audience, unless in the Rec division.

  • Routines must perform in their scheduled order unless permission is given otherwise.

GROUP SIZES & ROUTINE TIME LIMITS:

Solo - 1 dancer - Time Limit: 2:45

Duo - 2 dancers - Time Limit: 2:45

Trio - 3 dancers - Time Limit: 2:45

Team - 4-9 dancers - Time Limit: 4:00

Large Team - 10+ dancers - Time Limit: 4:00

Production - 4+ dancers - Time Limit: 10:00

FEES: Competition entry fees may be requested by studio directors through our Contact page or by e-mailing starclassicdance@gmail.com.

CRITIQUES: Competition score sheets may be picked up at the end of the event. These items will be given to the teacher or studio owner only. By entering, you accept that all decisions by judges are final. Audio critiques will be emailed to studio director the following week.

AWARDS: Each routine will be adjudicated by 3 judges on a 100 point scale, for a possible total of 300 points. Routines will receive a High Gold, Gold, Silver or Bronze placement based on the adjudicated point system.

Novice

Gold: 270-278
High Gold: 279-300

Beginning

Bronze: 200-262
Silver: 263-271
Gold: 272-280
High Gold: 281-300

Intermediate

Bronze: 200-264
Silver: 265-273
Gold: 274-282
High Gold: 283-300

Advanced

Bronze: 200-266
Silver: 267-275
Gold: 276-284
High Gold: 285-300

Judges Star Awards will be awarded by judges to 2 Solo routines, 2 Duo/Trio routines, and 2 team routines in each level.

Overall Awards will be awarded by level for solos, duos/trios and team routines. Overall Awards will be awarded to 25% of the level. (Ex. Novice level has 20 routines - Overall awards will be presented to Top 5 routines.)

One Overall Studio Grand Champion will be awarded to the studio with the highest average score of all routines entered, regardless of category, division or level.

One studio will be awarded the Star Classic GLOW Award. This award recipient is chosen by event staff. The GLOW award is given to the studio that shows passion, character and charisma on and off the stage. This studio’s dancers and staff are friendly and encouraging to each other, other competitors and event staff.

All studios will receive a studio trophy. Each team dancer will receive an individual competition gift. Solo, Duo and Trio dancers will each receive individual trophies.

PAYMENT AND REFUND POLICY:  Payment in full is due by April 11, 2025. If paid in full by March 15, 2025, studio will receive $150 applied to your studio account for the 25-26 season.

Payment is accepted via Venmo, Credit Card (3.3% fee) or check. Once you have registered you will receive an invoice with payment details.

Refunds will not be issued after the final payment date for the event. In the case of a cancelled event that is unable to be rescheduled, entry fees may be added as an account credit or refunded as requested by the studio.

MUSIC & AUDIO JUDGING: Each studio will receive a Google Drive folder to upload music. Following the competition, your judging audio files will be uploaded into the same Google Drive.

REGISTRATION & CHANGES: Registration will close April 11, 2025. Any changes will need to be finalized 14 day prior to the competition date. Please email us at starclassicdance@gmail.com to confirm any registration changes.
