    A routine expressing the lyrics of a song, using various ballet and jazz techniques.

  • Contemporary

    A routine demonstrating a contemporary style of dance, by blending various techniques from modern, ballet, jazz, and/or hip hop.

  • Jazz

    A routine demonstrating jazz technique and style.

  • Hip Hop

    A routine demonstrating any street style or technique derived from, but not limited to, breaking, popping, locking, house, waacking, etc.

  • Acro

    A routine blending dance and acrobatic elements.

  • Character

     A routine featuring any style of dance, interpreting a song or character from a Broadway show, movie, musical or similar.

  • Tap

    A routine with dynamic and rhythmic style of dance that combines fast footwork, precise timing, and creative expression, blending elements of jazz, ballet, and traditional African rhythms.

  • Open

    Any routine that consists of multiple styles of dance or does not fall under any other category.

  • Cheer

    A routine where squads perform using dance, gymnastics and cheerleading elements.

  • Production

    A large group routine featuring dancers from multiple age groups or companies. Productions may demonstrate any style of dance or combination of dance styles. Time limit maximum of 10:00 minutes.

  • Mini

    Ages 4-6

  • Junior

    Ages 6-8

  • Intermediate

    Ages 8-10

  • Pre-Teen

    Ages 10-13

  • Teen

    Ages 13-16

  • Senior

    Ages 16-18

  • Miss Star Classic

    The Miss Star Classic division is open to dancers 14-18. Dancers entered in this division will be awarded a ranking among Miss Star Classic competitors. First place overall dancer will be named Miss Star Classic.

    All Miss Star Classic competitors will receive a Miss Star Classic t-shirt.

  • Details

    Dancers’ age is as of January 1st, 2025.

    Duos, Trios and Teams, the dancers’ ages will be averaged and decimal dropped to determine the age division.

Levels

  • Recreation

    The Recreation level is for dancers and teams who only attend 1 class per week and have little to no experience performing.

    Coaching from the audience is allowed for the Recreation level.

  • Novice

    Examples of basic skills allowed in Novice: single pirouettes, saut de chat, front battements.

    Simple tumbling skills such as cartwheels and forward rolls.

  • Beginning

    Examples of basic skills allowed in Beginning: single or double pirouettes, grand jete, saut de chat, side leaps, front or side battements.

    Simple tumbling skills such as cartwheels, forward rolls, bridges.

  • Intermediate

    Examples of basic skills allowed in Intermediate: double or triple pirouettes, switch leaps, back leaps, leg holds and single leg hold turns, fouette turns(4 total rotations), a la seconde turns (4 total rotations).

    Intermediate tumbling skills such as walkovers, aerials, handsprings.

  • Advanced

    Examples of basic skills allowed in Advanced: 4+ pirouettes, advanced turning sequences include fouettes and a la seconde turns, multiple leg hold turns, switch leaps.

    Advanced tumbling skills such as fulls, layouts, tucks.

  • Details

    Duos/Trios: Level is determined by highest level dancer.

    Bumped Routines: If 2 or more judges agree that a routine should compete at a higher level, the routine will be bumped.

AWARDS

Each routine will be adjudicated by 3 judges on a 100 point scale, for a possible total of 300 points.

Routines will receive a High Gold, Gold, Silver or Bronze placement based on the adjudicated point system.

Please note routines entered in the Miss Star Classic division will not get an adjudication ranking and will be ranked among other Miss Star Classic competitors.

One Overall Studio Grand Champion will be awarded to the studio with the highest average score of all routines entered, regardless of category, division or level.

Judges Star Awards will be awarded to routines the judges see as entertaining, stand out routines.

One studio will be awarded the Star Classic GLOW Award. This award recipient is chosen by event staff. The GLOW award is given to the studio that shows passion, character and charisma on and off the stage. This studio’s dancers and staff are friendly and encouraging to each other, other competitors and event staff.

Overall Awards will be presented to 25% of the level. (Ex. Novice level has 20 routines - Overall awards will be presented to Top 5 routines.)
